Medea and Jason

For our first full interpretation making project I chose to make for an opera production of Medea and Jason, sewn for modern day stage. My design was an 1780s costume plate by Rene Gaillard for a Medea costume, a historic story even for the time; the ancient Greek myth of Jason and Medea paints the tale of Medea a scorned wife and sorcerer. The costume for this production utilised a silhouette from around 50 years prior, mimicking the exaggerated shape and silhouette of the Antoinette period to characterise this brazen character of a woman, as if for the larger crinoline and skirts dominating presence replicated that of Medea herself.
