Aoife from the fairy tale Children of Lir
For the final project of first year this was a five week creative collaboration to produce a costume with a fabric constraint of 10m of Calico cotton that could be dyed, cut or embellished to produce an elevated costume outcome for our given text. My group chose to design and make for Aoife, the cruel and mystical stepmother from the Irish tale. Due to our collective interest to explore the seductive and suggestive themes often intertwined with antagonistic women, our design was a highlight of the symbols of femininity and the Madonna/Whore complex. Working on this project was a fascinating challenge in adapting under a timeframe to interpret others design work and produce hasty yet thorough results.
Collaborators on this project were designers @gwendolynkuenecostume @fayefrancisart @evaetoddcostume and makers @flo_clack_ and @evie.fashionandcostume all of their work can be found on their Instagrams.
