NAUCIAA OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND

This unit was an exploration of readapting known media or existing IPs for stage or screen, such as the reimagining for My Neighbour Totoro at the Barbican in 2022. In my investigation of the film Nausicaä I studied the effects of the climate and foraging on native communities, exploring the ever growing pressure on the world as the expectations for climate change immigration numbers are expected to rise with each passing year. The world of Nausicaä hinges on the changes caused by the post apocalyptic climate and the tribes that are formed to survive it. I focused my costume outcome on nihilistic futurism as it gave me the opportunity to explore the world of costume breakdown and zero waste garment making from refuse materials and scraps.
